"A view of a wonderful rock formation at Windy Point on Mt. Lemmon. I have been intrigued by this area since my first trip up Mt. Lemmon a few years ago. Seen at midday, these rocks would appear almost colorless. But with the light of a winter sunset blazing in the west, they come alive with an uncanny variety of warm and cool color, and glow almost as if lit from within. The light also brings the lovely geometry of this formation into sharp relief. While I enjoy painting recognizable landmarks, it is this kind of subject that really gets my artistic juices flowing. One of the great pleasures of this profession is being present in interesting, if perhaps unremarkable, locations like this at times of such striking illumination. These are the moments, and the subjects, I live for." -Stephen C. Datz
