Joe, Oreland

World-renowned sculptor Oreland Joe was born in Shiprock, New Mexico in 1958. He is of both Dine’ (Navajo) and Ute descent and, as a youth, lived on both reservations. Joe credits his family as being his most significant influences, especially his father, mother, and grandfather - all of whom provided the encouragement and inspiration he needed to explore his artistic talent. Oreland Joe’s work is featured in important museum, corporate, and private collections. In 1993, Joe received the honor of being the first Native American artist to join the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America. Today, Oreland Joe makes his home and studio in Kirtland, New Mexico.
