Howard Post Paintings & Drawings
Howard Post has achieved national acclaim for his paintings of ranch life, cattle, the rodeo, and cowboys. He paints with a modern, Impressionist approach using sun-drenched colors and a unique aerial perspective. Post is a native Arizonan, raised on a working ranch in the Tucson area. His family bred rodeo stock and Post competed in rodeo competitions starting at a young age. He became an Arizona High School All-Round Rodeo Champion, a member of the University of Arizona rodeo team, and eventually, a competitor with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, yet these successes could not sway him from a life as an artist. Post completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine art at the University of Arizona, and after teaching for a few years and working in commercial art, Post decided in 1980 to devote his energies solely to fine art. Howard Post’s work is represented in major collections, including The Smithsonian Institution, The Forbes Foundation, United Airlines, Denver Art Museum, Phoenix Art Museum, and The Whitney Buffalo Bill Museum of Western Art.
