The original studies I used for both were painted en plein air many years ago with a good friend and fellow artist who passed away in 2023. That was back in my earliest days as a painter, and both subjects had been on my list to revisit for some time. This view is from an area near the Gros Ventre (pronounced Grow Vaunt) river, looking south. A few sunny and warm fall days had given way to clouds and cooler temperatures and this lovely sky, which to me perfectly captured the feel of the transition from summer to winter." - Stephen C. Datz
