Susan Kliewer - Ridin' High

"I'll be ridin' high in a star spangled sky." This line from a favorite song inspired me to sculpt this exuberant trick rider on her rearing horse. From 1900 through 1940, women competed alongside men for cash prizes as well as for exhibition money. By participating in this purely American sport, the early cowgirl was perhaps our first professional woman athlete. - Susan Kliewer
